Rond 11:22 uur brak een woningbrand uit aan de Swalmerstraat in het centrum van Roermond. De brandweer werd initieel gealarmeerd voor assistentie bij het afhijsen van een persoon, maar constateerde snel een dakbrand aan een woning. De situatie escaleerde aanzienlijk: binnen enkele minuten werd de brand geclassificeerd als zeer groot, waarna GRIP 1 werd afgekondigd. Meerdere brandweerteams rukten uit en ook ambulances werden ingezet. Volgens nieuwsbronnen betrof het een monumentale stadsvilla in de binnenstad. De brand zorgde voor hevige rookontwikkeling die over het centrum trok, waarna een NL-Alert werd verstuurd. Volgens VML Nieuws was het vuur waarschijnlijk ontstaan door werkzaamheden. De brand werd rond 15:00 uur onder controle gebracht. Minstens één bewoner verloor haar woning volledig.
