Rond 09:45 uur brak een brand uit in een gebouw aan de Voorstraat in Meppel, die zich kort daarop uitbreidde naar slagerij Lantinga/The Butchery aan de Woldstraat. De brandweer rukte massaal uit en voerde GRIP 1 in vanwege de zeer grote omvang van het incident. Volgens meerdere nieuwsbronnen sloeg de brand in de slagerij snel over naar omliggende woningen. Verschillende panden werden ontruimd, waaronder een kinderdagverblijf en bibliotheek in de buurt. De brand veroorzaakte grote zwarte rookontwikkeling en had grote impact op de binnenstad van Meppel. De brand raakte onder controle in de loop van de ochtend. Locoburgemeester Robin van Ulzen verklaarde dat veiligheid de hoogste prioriteit was. Het exacte aantal gewonden en de oorzaak van de brand zijn niet gemeld.

Verschillende panden werden ontruimd, waaronder een kinderdagverblijf en bibliotheek in de buurt. De brand veroorzaakte grote zwarte rookontwikkeling en had grote impact op de binnenstad van Meppel. De brand raakte onder controle in de loop van de ochtend. Locoburgemeester Robin van Ulzen verklaarde dat veiligheid de hoogste prioriteit was.
