Rond 00:25 uur brak een zeer grote brand uit in een bedrijfspand op het industrieterrein aan de Handelstraat in Leerdam. De brandweer rukte massaal uit en activeerde GRIP 1 vanwege de omvang van het incident. Meerdere eenheden en goederen-transporte voertuigen werden ingezet om de brand te bestrijden. Volgens Het Kontakt werd het pand van een wegenbouwbedrijf (Trackline) volledig verwoest. Het gebouw diende voor fabricage en opslag. De brand verspreidde zich snel en veroorzaakte zeer hoge vlammen die ver zichtbaar waren. Er werden geen gewonden gemeld. De brand werd de volgende uren onder controle gebracht door de inzet van talrijke brandweerteams.
