Rond 04:01 uur brak een uitslaande brand uit op het dak van kantoorgebouw C en D van het NIOZ aan het Landsdiep in Den Hoorn. De brandweer rukte met spoed uit en escaleerde de inzet van middelbrand naar grote brand. Rond 04:12 uur werd de uitbraak als grote brand geclassificeerd, waarna aanvullende eenheden ter plaatse kwamen. Een ambulance werd ook opgeroepen. Volgens rodi.nl en het Noordhollands Dagblad ontstond de brand in een airco-unit op het dak van het kantoorpand. De brand sloeg flink uit en veroorzaakte een onrustige nacht in Den Hoorn. De brandweer wist het vuur onder controle te krijgen.
